How to Filter Your Social Media Feed with Gobo

Gobo (gobo.social) is a social media experiment and website from researchers at MIT. Gobo allows anyone over 18 to create an account and connect Twitter and/or Facebook accounts to it, and then “control” or “filter” what information is presented in the feed of content. Controls include how diverse included perspectives are, whether commercial content is included, how serious or rude the articles are, and more. In this six minute screencast tutorial, Dr. Wesley Fryer demonstrates how to use Gobo.

This tool was included in Dr. Fryer’s April 14, 2019 workshop at the ATLIS (Association of Leaders of Independent Schools) Conference in Dallas, Texas, titled, “Filtering the ExoFlood: Strategies for Media and Information Literacy.” All resources from that workshop are available on wfryer.me/exoflood.
